Book review: Women Who Surf
Women Who Surf: Charging Waves with the World’s Best. Lucia Griggi emailed me to tell me about a new book on Women Who Surf, that she has just published with Ben Marcus. It looks amazing, with all our favourite women surfers and photographers featured. It would make a great present at only $16 paperback.
Including waves like Mavericks and Jaws, Women Who Surf offers a celebration of feminine beauty, athleticism, wisdom, and skill when the surf is bombing. It profiles some of the world’s most inspiring female surfers ranging from Bethany Hamilton, Keala Kennelly, to Wrenna Delgado. Each surfer tells her story, highlighting her personal challenges, accomplishments, and philosophy, as well as inspiring readers and providing them with practical how-to suggestions on maximizing not only their own potential in surfing but in life as they lead the charge and push their limits at infamous big-wave spots like Teahupoo in Tahiti, Waimea Bay, and Peahi/Jaws in the Hawaiian Islands.
The profiles by the accomplished author and editor Ben Marcus are complemented by stunning color photography by leading adventure photojournalist Lucia Griggi.
Some of our favourite photographers like Sachi Cunningham who we hero’d as one of the top 11 female actions sports photographers in the world is also featured in the book.
Lucia Griggi is a world-traveling photographer specializing in fashion, action, and travel. Of mixed English/Venetian heritage, she combines British precision with Italian flare in her photography. Lucia has been around the world and back, shooting leopards in Sri Lanka, surfing from the Maldives to Malibu and fashion from Venice, Italy to Venice, California. Lucia has collaborated with Ben Marcus on Skateboard: The Good, the Rad and the Gnarly and also The Art of Standup Paddling.
