Want to know what champions are made of?
If you don’t know the name Lindsey Vonn you should. Not only is she the most successful and decorated female skier of all time, holding the most World Cup record wins at 64, but her drive, determination and will power to succeed is a remarkable character trait that will inspire you to lift your own game.
“Setbacks motivate me” – Lindsey Vonn
In 2013 Lindsey had a devastating crash during the first Super G race in Shcladming, Austria. She tore her anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in her right knee and fractured her tibia in the same leg. He knee was a mess but her determination to go to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi superseded this setback. In returning to competition 9 months later after a heavy rehab stint, Lindsey took another devastating fall injuring the same knee and re-tearing her ACL. Her uphill battle against injury to try and make the Olympics took another major set back.
“You are only limited to what you push yourself to, you know? You can always get better.”
Red Bull, one of Lindsey Vonn’s main sponsors, documented her 2 year recovery and gruelling rehabilitation back to the top. Aptly named “The Climb”, the documentary takes an intimate look at Lindsey’s struggles, methods and motivations to return to being a champion skier once again. Any one who has experienced set backs in their life, be it athletic or personal, can relate to Lindsey’s story. What makes her remarkable is her confidence and drive to win and power through. She worked damn hard to be where she is and her journey or ‘climb’ back to the top are nothing short of remarkable. She may be the greatest role model out there for any women athlete, in any sport.
