Australia and New Zealand are two of the most exciting and impressive places in the world to visit these days. Especially if you are looking for places full of adventurous opportunity and exciting cultural differences. There is so much on offer here for curious adventurers.

If you are the kind of person that loves to have active travel experiences, these two countries are certainly tailor-made for you. There are a lot of things that have to go into making the perfect travel adventure and choosing the right activities is a good step forward. Here are 5 of the best adventure activities to try in New Zealand and Australia.

That one day where we surf, snowboard and skate all in one day.

Deserted waves in NSW in Australia

#1 Surfing

Surfing is one of the best adventurous activities available in both New Zealand and Australia. There are so many stunning surf spots, but I would highly recommend Fraser Park as one of the best surf spots outside of Sydney. If you are also interested in the NZ surfing scene, you should check out North Island’s famed Shipwreck Bay; a beach that offers the perfect swell. Surfing is such an amazing way of staying active and experiencing a fundamental part of Aussie and Kiwi culture.

Smiles is the skies over Dubai

#2 Skydiving

For those thrill seekers out there I would definitely recommend you try out skydiving. There are so many wonderful places you can do this; Lake Taupo in New Zealand is stunning, as is Cairns in Australia.

Just make sure you are sensible and careful before you choose to do something like this. It is estimated that 1 in 6 travellers had to make a claim in 2016, and these are the sorts of activities that you need to double-check are covered. Make sure you are careful and have done your research, ensuring you opt for a reputable company, before taking to the skies.

Swimming with sharks

Swimming with sharks, terrifying or exciting?

#3 Swim With Sharks

Okay, don’t freak out – it is important to make sure you experience everything that these great nations have to offer. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most stunning places in the world, and it is also the perfect location to have one of the most amazing experiences on Earth – swimming with sharks.

I would recommend this experience to anyone who has the chance to try it. It’s not as scary as it sounds, don’t worry. They put you in this big, strong metal cage so the sharks can’t get to you.

Crocodile cruise in the mangroves

#4 Crocodile River Cruise

If a croc river cruise sounds like your idea of an awesome time, then you’ve come to the right place. I understand this won’t be for everyone, but it is certainly something that will appeal to the swimming with sharks contingent.

A cruise along the Daintree River from Port Douglas is just about the best place to enjoy one of these amazing river cruises. This is something I would love to do at some point, and I will certainly be looking into this one in the future.

Winter Games New Zealand

Skiing in New Zealand awards some STUNNING views!

#5 Skiing and snowboarding

Believe it or not, these two countries both offer amazing opportunities for skiing adventures! I bet you thought Australia had no snow, right? Wrong! There is actually plenty of snow here, and I should know because I spent some time in Kosciuszko National Park in NSW which has plenty of snow. New Zealand’s South Island is also packed with plenty of skiing and snowboarding opportunities, with no less than nine commercial ski fields.

These are just 5 of the best activities you need to consider if you are serious about making the most of a trip to either of these wonderful countries. Of course, there are plenty more you can do as well, and if there are any I have missed out that you feel absolutely need to be in there, please let me know in the comments section below.
