Being a professional snowboarder sounds awesome, it is awesome, but – it’s hard. Especially when you’re a contest rider hitting huge slopestyle courses every weekend of the season, and especially when it’s an Olympic year, and you’ve been doing the pro tour for 10 years straight.

 

So when X Games silver medalist and snowboard tour veteran Šárka Pančochová famously crashed out on her second run of the 2014 Sochi Olympics Slopestyle final, it wasn’t just her helmet that was trashed – her love of snowboarding was pretty beaten up too.

 

So, the Czech pipe and park ripper did what anyone with mad skills and an existential crisis should do – she took the following winter off from competing, and headed into the backcountry. Luckily for us, she took a few friends and a filmer along too – and Shark Tales was born.
