Title Nine – You’ll be stoked to discover this brand!

Title Nine is a clothing brand representing real women, outdoors doing all the activities, in places that YOU want to see yourself in. These are clothes that make you feel good, look good, and are practical for the lifestyle you wish to lead.

First off, let’s talk about the name: Title Nine
Title IX is a landmark federal civil rights law that requires gender equality in all aspects of publicly-funded education in the USA. It was founded in 1972 and from that bit of legislation came a noticeable increase in female participation in sports. Before the bill was signed, there were roughly 310,000 women and girls playing sports in colleges and high schools throughout the nation. Thanks to Title Nine, there are currently over three million women and girls playing interscholastic sports today, a number that continues to grow each year (source Ohio University).

Title IX is one of the most important pieces of legislation of the 20th century and it is vitally important that we all fight to keep it safe and relevant. While so many think it is only about sports, it is so much bigger. It is about equality and ensuring that all genders have equal access to educational opportunities at all levels.

– Billie-Jean King in an interview with Title Nine CEO, Missy Park

So calling your brand after, arguably the most important gender equality bill passed in the United States, is a great place to start. Building a brand FOR the women you want to support, in those sports that they are now permitted to flourish in.

What I love about Title Nine is how they represent their brand: real women, outdoors doing all the activities, in places that YOU want to see yourself in. These images are RELATABLE. The women in the clothes are relatable and thus, the clothes themselves are DESIRABLE. The support the women in their quests to get to those places to do those things. And they have been doing this since the brand was founded, in a garage in Berkeley, CA, 1989.

Title Nine make the clothes that you always comment to your girlfriends, ‘Where did you get that from?‘. I know this, because I’ve been rocking their Get Down Skirt, the fleece-lined and skinny fit Crash Tights and the Playmaker Long Sleeve Dress, this winter in Niseko, Japan.  OMG have I got SO MANY COMPLIMENTS. It was an absolute pleasure to wear clothes that were warm, practical and stylish… because I normally just wear my ski thermals out!

So here are a few of my favourite Title Nine pieces. I definitely recommend checking them out. While I couldn’t find any information about sustainability or the use of recycled or regenerated fabrics on their website, I have posed this question to them as supporting sustainable fashion of increasing concern to both us at Still Stoked, and you our readers.
